Paul Shambroom 2nd Visiting Artist
The artist Paul Shambroom was a great artist. His document style photography made me think of my Dad. His military pictures were my favorite. Seeing the pentagon pictures was funny because i had seen that room before. I could relate to a lot of the pictures. I thought the portraits he did were funny and serious at same time which was not a bad thing at all. The kind of photography he did is what I hope i can do and get payed for it in the future. I like that he was more of a documentary photographer then a fine art photographer. I agreed with him on not liking artist theory books. People get to obsessive into reading those books and doing as they say. It was interesting learn how many underground missels are in the U.S. I would have never guessed there was that many. It just reall ycaught to my liking that his photos are more about informing and teaching then fine art. Im not putting down fine art but i like documentary style photos then fine art photos. Overall the guy was great photographer and did really well.
First Art Walk Febuary 6th
On the 6th I went to first Friday. Compared to the other first Friday's I have been to I was not really impressed. I am guessing this one was not as exciting because it was cold and not as many people were coming out. Before I had seen lights and more decorations and people set up on the streets. It was kind of sad this first Friday was not played up as much as it usually is. There was nothing that was eye catching to me. Usually I see a couple of artists at least that captivate me. It makes me sad to go to art shows and see that a lot of the art looks like little kids made the art. What happened to the importance of having actual skill and being a good artist. There were some peaces at first friday that were interesting not great but interesting I saw. There was green sprout things installed on a wall the person had good crafting skill but it was kind of odd. The artists of the sprout sculptures name was Hyun Kyung Yoon. I also saw a drawing of sascwatch, Big Foot, or a Yetti it was dong in ink on paper that piece won my attention out of everything at first friday. It may not have been great but it was beautiful and funny at the same time. Overall first friday could have been a lot better I think they could be accepting and taking better pieces of art.

Stiff Lace: a photographic celebration
Saturday night I went to see a art show called stiff lace. All three artists showing their work were photographers. One of the artists I saw downstairs was my favorite. Her name was Janissa Hamilton. The strongest pieces I viewed were the photographs she displayed in light boxes. The pieces were beautiful they really showed a strong sense of style. How she framed the photographs with old window planes made the photographs more interesting and feel. They gave the photos a sense that you were looking out of a window and seeing what you saw in the photograph. My top two favorite of Janissas pieces are the girl who was with this ball of light almsot to replicate the sun. It gave a kind of fairy tale feel. My second favorite piece was the naked upper torso or a woman. I though this piece was beautiful because when you looked at it your first though was not oh this is a naked woman. The skin was deep blue and green pattern and and a fairy tale feel like how the other photographs were. She had other pieces at the show but they did not have as strong feel as the ones in the light box did. My advice to her would be to stay in the direction as those photographs are.
