Artist Statement on Intermediate final Project.

For my final project for my intermediate class I decided to do series of photos of pay phones. I got my idea looking through the work of Edward Ruscha. I love that in his photography work he likes the idea of not needing a explination to understand his work. With my documentation of the payphones I wanted to document somthing people are slowley forgetting about. Payphones use to be highly used and now they are not anymore they are just a decoration on the american landscape now. The fact they are being forgotten highly interests me and wants me to document them. It is like getting last pictures of animal that is going exstinct you know you see them at the moment but they will not be there anymore the next. My main point of this art projet is documenting somthing that is being forgotten before it disapeers. I like that i just have short phrase to go with my work because i like to leave the rest up to the viewers mind. I believe artists have to much for you to read when they display work I like to keep it the way older artist did and leave it to the mind. That is my goal with my current art project.

My 2nd art entry

I decided to apply online to the center for fine art photographys black and white gallery. I decided to submit 3 picture of my black and white phone booth pictures I took for my intermediate class. It was just 35 dollars i dont think that is bad at all for a art gallery.

I applied to the anderson gallery

Then i got rejecteddd lol probably because the pieces i submitted didnt really fit together

Marches first friday

I was not make it to marches first friday night but the following week i visted the galleries and saw everything the showed that night. I was only able see three galleries because alot were closed. The three were quirk, Metro space gallery, and Photographic arts gallery.

Quirk was not overly impressive they had the same artist up from the month before up in there big room space. In the back they had a vault though that i saw for first time there was artist that had ceramic piece were really interesting. They were vases and othere things painted in a old stone kinda feel. The artist name was Don Davis. I like the old earthy colors he used gave his pieces a calm kind of feeling. His work also kind of tricks you into thinkng his stuff was made a hundred to two hundred years ago was cool.

Second gallery I viewed by staring in the window because it was closed but you could still see everything. It was called Metro Space gallery all the work in there was visualy captivating there was big used of bright colors and gave you kind of a trippy feel. I did not see name of artist but i have say the work in there interested me more then most galleries work does. There was silver brick tower thing on the inside with yellow eye was facinating could not stop staring at the eye on it. When I paint i always use bright colors so it always highly like art that also uses bright colors. Its interesting to see somthing similar or kinda or in same relm of what you do.

My favorite gallery I saw was the photographic Arts gallery I also viewed everything through the window there because the place was locked. They were showing a man named James Phelps work I loved this gallery. I have never seen panoramic pictures put up for art show before. The whole gallery was James panoramic pictures it was awsome. Most the photos were in sephia tone which was cool because usually you dont see alot of sephia pictures put up eithere gave it a slight old feel which is always interesting to see. All his pictures were either of streets or landscapes from what I could see. My favorite photo i saw of his was actually black and white. It was sitting on ground against wall and was beautiful. The photoshoping was perfect lighting and tones were perfect everything about it was beautiful i wish i could have it hanging on my wall right now but i couldnt afford it and the place was closed.

Graduate show at anderson gallery (hassan work)

The graduate show was really impressive. I though was kool that the show was on all four floors I did not even know they take some of the shows that high. First I was running around to find Hassans work but I found it alone of the third floor. It pretty cool they put it alone by itself. In his video hes putting what i think is like green shaving cream on his face so you soon figure out hes in bath tube or at least somewhere in bathroom. So putting the video by bathrrom in gallery was smart especially for association. I kind of suck at being able tell what art is about but i found video visual interesting. I do admit was strange see my teacher without his hair and beard that was what i thought about first but was good. I just could not tell the deep meaning of the film but i found it interesting. My artwork i usually dont have deep meaning to it at all so it does nto bother me when i can not see the hidden meaning if there is one in a pieace. I thought the lighting in the film was great was not to dark or to light. If i could guess what it was about i might ink somthing about change. He was lil scruffy in the beginning had his piercings in and went to the process of taking them out and shaving. So i might guess it is about change. The video definitly had the power to capture your attention and want to sit down and watch. Some short films all you can think is en is this going to be over or you just cant finish watching and walk away. I sat and watched the whole thing it definitly put you in a art daze and gets you thinking.

VCU undergraduate art show

The vcu undergraduate art show was fascinating. I liked last years better but it was still impressive. I felt who put the last years show did better at arranging and making the spaces look more interesting. When i walked in the installation that was several circles painted on the wall with necklaces dangleing now that was different and kool because of that i really liked it. I think the artist was cassandra mever. There was student Jacob Cunningham he had beautiful photographs. His photos had great detail was excellent. One person Grace Walker got her photos in i do not even know why because the photoshop was terrible. The lines were fuuzy horrizon line didnt match up was terrible. I saw Madison FIsks boulder dangeling from rop from ceilling that was amazing. When i first saw it i though it was a actual boulder after reading up i soon learned that it just made of stirofoam. That piece was the most visually captivating piece there it tricked everybody and you couldnt help but to stare at it for long time. It was a good show a little to much whtie space for my liking but it did great.
